Academic Skills Workshop Program and Study Center: (203) 392-6820
This program is open to all students regardless of enrollment status.  Each semester, staff members provide a series of workshops designed to improve study skills and scholastic habits to promote academic success.  The Study Skills Center office provides additional services such as; help with academic planning, individual assessment, and referrals.  Materials are available in the form of reading resources, self-assessment tools, and videotaped workshops.

Career Services and Cooperative Education: (203) 392-6536
Located in Schwartz 102, the Center offers career resources for all students.  Innovative programs are offered which enable students to explore, define, prepare for and realize their career objectives.  Full-time and part-time job opportunities and on-campus employment are also available. 

Center for Adaptive Technology: (203) 392-5799
Established in 1989 as the Adaptive Technology Lab, the Center for Adaptive Technology has a three-part mission to:  

  • Support SCSU's students with disabilities
  • Support SCSU's students in the education programs
  • Provide community support

Expanding from the original, centralized model of the Adaptive Technology Lab, the Center now includes the CAT Lab and the Educational Technology Resource Lab (ETRL). The CAT Lab serves students with disabilities and the ETRL serves students studying in fields relating to adaptive technology. The Center has also installed accessible stations throughout most computer labs on campus, as well as Buley Library and several dorms.

Commuter Student Services is located in the University Student Center, room 100.  Special programs and services for commuter students are offered.

Counseling Services: (203) 392-5475
University Counseling Services, located in Engleman 219B provides students the opportunity to talk with a professional counselor about their issues. The office is staffed by professional counselors and social workers. It is a place to meet with an objective person who can help him/her in many ways, like developing problem solving and coping skills. Students can then apply what they learn about themselves and/or their particular situation in the "real world" so that they can begin to effectively deal with problems outside of the counseling setting.  University Counseling Services offers a wide variety of resources to help students adjust to life on campus. Our primary purpose is to provide psychological support as students pursue academic and personal goals and to enhance the quality of their experience at Southern Connecticut State University.

Disability Resources Center: (203) 392-6828
The Disability Resource Center (DRC), located in Engleman B222,  provides students, faculty, and staff with assistance and information on issues of access and full participation for persons with disabilities at the University. The DRC's principal duty is to provide services and supports that promote educational equity for students with disabilities. Assistance includes arranging accommodations and auxiliary aids that are necessary for students with disabilities to pursue their academic studies, both in and out of the classroom.

Interfaith Office: (203) 392-5331
The Inter-Faith Office considers spiritual growth an important part of personal development.  Several Chaplains are active on campus, enabling students to make appointments or simply stop by the office in Engleman Hall, to ask for assistance.

International Students: (203) 392-6821
Located in the Wintergreen Building, the International Student Advisor can help students with all kinds of campus details, from admissions and registration to housing and transportation.  In addition, the advisor can assist students to deal with the many federal forms and regulations that are a part of international study.

Men's Corner: (203) 392-6946
The Men's Corner, located in Schwartz Hall, is an adjunct of the Women's Center, providing similar services offered by the Women's Center office, while focusing on the specific needs of men.

MultiCultural Center: (203) 392-5888
The MultiCultural Center is an important resource for the entire SCSU community. There, ethnic groups can explore their distinctiveness and unite in common activities. We strive to create a comfortable atmosphere where faculty, students, and staff can come together to share their interests and concerns. For some, the Center is a meeting place for learning more about their own culture and the cultures of others; for some, the Center is their emotional home.

Registrar's Office: (203) 392-5301
Located in the rear of the Wintergreen Building, this office is responsible for registration, add/drop, withdrawals, maintenance of official academic records, auditing degree program requirements, compiling the Dean's List, and processing transcripts and certification for teachers, social security, and other government forms.  Forms for change of address, certification, transcripts, and applications for a degree are available in this office.

Student and University Affairs: (203) 392-5550
The Office of Student and University Affairs, located in Engleman Hall A106, is the center for student services on campus.  Here, student ideas, needs, and issues are presented, discussed, and acted upon in both formal and informal settings.  The office focuses on meeting the needs of students.  The members of the Office of the Vice President for Student and University Affairs serve as advisors to committees and to the Student Government Association.

Student Supportive Services     
The Student Supportive Services Central Office, located in the Wintergreen Building, provides an array of academic and personal services for a wide range of students, including international students, veterans, non-traditional students, minority students, and students with disabilities, as well as academic enhancement initiatives involving middle and high school students.  Programs in study skills development, remediation, tutorial services, advisement, and counseling are avalailable.

Tutorial Center: (203) 392-6824
Located in the Wintergreen Building, the center offers individual and small-group assistance to many introductory-level courses.  Tutorials are offered on a drop-in basis throughout the semester, and the services are free.

Veterans Services: (203) 392-6822
Veterans attending Southern should visit the Veterans Office located in the Engleman Building in room B018.  Besides helping with VA paperwork, Southern's veterans counselor provides both personal and academic counseling.

Wellness Office: (203) 392-6526
The Wellness Center, located in the University Student Center, is a non-judgmental, confidential place for the University community to come for information, conversation, and referrals about topics related to health. The center collaborates with other offices on campus and in the community to provide comprehensive services. It provides outreach and education workshops and programs on campus. The center also maintains resources on a wide array of topics including nutrition, fitness, illness and disease, sexuality, and stress management.

Women's Center: (203) 392-6946
The Women's Center, located in Schwartz Hall, is a place for all women and men of every race, ethnicity, age, ability, class, sexual orientation, and religion to gather together and explore and celebrate the richness and diversity of life.

  • The center provides information, support groups, referral, and services to facilitate education on issues related to feminism, women, men and gender.
  • The center organizes events of interest to women and men such as discussion groups, speaker series, workshops, concerts and films.
  • The center also maintains a resource room with information on women's health, sexual assault, AIDS and HIV, self esteem, sexual harassment, eating disorders, date rape drugs, domestic violence, safe sex, and birth control.

Writing Center: (203) 392-6824
The Campus Writing Center, located in the Wintergreen Building, provides general consultation and assists students in finding ways to address writing concerns with the goal of promoting confident, self-reliant student writers.
