Center for Communication Disorders

Mission:

The Center for Communication Disorders provides a variety of family-inclusive speech, language, hearing and advocacy services for children and adults with communication disorders in the culturally and economically diverse communities of the Greater New Haven area and its surrounding counties.

Staff:

The Center is staffed by academic faculty and clinical instructors from the Southern Connecticut State University Department of Communication Disorders. All are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in speech-language pathology and/or audiology, and are licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Health Services.

 

Clinical instructors are responsible for case planning, management and supervision of all treatment and evaluation provided by graduate student clinicians of the Department of Communication Disorders.

Services:

Services include evaluation and treatment of communication disorders and needs including:

  • Articulation and phonological disorders
  • Developmental language disorders
  • Voice disorders, including laryngectomy and transgendered voice
  • Fluency disorders
  • Neurogenic communicative disorders including aphasia, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive disorders
  • Augmentative/alternative communication
  • Language to literacy development
  • Audiological (hearing) testing
  • Hearing aid prescription and dispensing
  • Aural rehabilitation

    The Center charges a modest fee for all services; a sliding scale is available for those who qualify.  We are unable to accept Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurances.
