living learning communities

As you may have heard, new Living Learning Communities (LLC) will be available for the Fall 2012 semester. Living Learning Communities offer a unique opportunity to reside with other students who share similar interests within a themed community specifically tailored to your interests. You will have the opportunity to provide direct feedback about programs, share leadership for the development of activities, and have the opportunity to live with other like-minded students.

 

Living Learning Communities (LLC) are available to returning and new students. To be eligible for a living learning community you must:

·   Meet eligibility requirements for the Residence Hall in which the LLC resides

·   Have an interest in the topic/focus area for the LLC

·   Honors College students must be accepted into the SCSU Honors College

 

 

Honors Living-Learning Community (West Campus)

 This community is specifically designed for students accepted into the Honor's College at SCSU. This LLC offers an academically and socially enriching environment living with other honors students. All majors are welcome. Members of the Honors Community will have the opportunity to advise the Office of Residence Life on creating positive academic environments.

 

Health & Wellness Living Learning Community (Wilkinson Hall)

 This community is designed for students interested in fitness, nutrition, and wellness lifestyles. This LLC provides support and information about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. All majors are welcome but this community is especially suited for students in health related majors. Members of the Health & Wellness Community will have the opportunity to advise the Office of Residence Life on creating healthy living environments.


Math & Science Living Learning Community (Chase Hall)

 The Math & Science community offers students the opportunity to live with others who share similar classes and interest in math & science. This LLC is specifically tailored for students in math & science related majors.  Members of the Math & Science Community will have the opportunity to advise the Office of Residence Life on creating positive academic environments.


Sustainability Living Learning Community (Hickerson Hall)

 This community is designed for students interested in sustainability and green initiatives. This LLC offers support and information about maintaining a green lifestyle. Members of the Sustainability community will have the opportunity to advise the Office of Residence Life on creating greener residence hall communities.

 

Transfer Living Learning Community (Farnham Hall & Schwartz Apartments)

These communities are uniquely suited for students who have previous college experience but are new to Southern. Members of the Transfer community will have the opportunity to get a special orientation to SCSU and will advise the Office of Residence Life on creating positive experiences for transfer students.
