what not to bring 

photo of studentsThe Office of Residence Life does NOT allow the following items to be within the residence halls. Should these items be found within a residence hall, they will be confiscated, and the student who owns them will face residence hall disciplinary actions.

Should you have a question about whether an item is allowed within the hall, contact the Office of Residence Life at (203) 392-5870.

  • Combustible or highly flammable materials (i.e., candles, incense, flammable liquids, and wicker wastebaskets or lamp shades)
  • Cooking appliances such as heating coils, hot plates, or toaster ovens, as well as room air conditioners, electric heaters, halogen lamps, barbeque grills, and fridges and/or microwave ovens not provided from University Contract Services
  • Per the State Fire Marshall, extension cords without surge protection are not allowed within the residence halls. Any extension cords without surge protection will be confiscated and the student may face displinary action.
  • Electrical equipment requiring more than the usual amount of current
  • Beds from home, waterbeds, or weightlifting equipment
  • Pets of any kind except fish in a medium-sized fish tank
  • Narcotics and/or illegal drugs, beer in bottles or in containers over 16 oz. (please consult the University Handbook for the University Alcohol Policy)
  • Official or public signs
  • Fireworks, firearms, explosives or dangerous weapons
  • Loud musical instruments, tower amplifiers, darts, dartboards, radio scanners, black lights or colored light bulbs
  • Bicycles (bike lockers and bike racks are available for use)
  • Mattresses (including Futons) not provided by the university
  • Two-way radios

Please consult with your residence hall director should you have a question regarding an item you would like to bring to campus. BE AWARE: Members of the office of Residence Life will confiscate any item which the department  deems unsafe or hazardous.
