alcohol policy
In
accordance with the provisions of the Connecticut Liquor Control Board
and the University Policy on Alcoholic Beverages as stated under
"Student and University Relations," the possession and consumption of
alcoholic beverages shall be restricted to those of legal age according
to Connecticut state law.
The drinking age is 21 years in the state of Connecticut.
- Those of legal age who provide alcohol to minors will be held responsible for violating the alcohol policy and for the actions of minors to whom the alcohol was given.
- Minors who possess, use, transfer, or sell alcohol will be held in violation of the policy.
- Students must present valid proof of age (i.e., driver's license, majority card) to any university official or staff of university contractual affiliates upon request.
- The primary responsibility for the proper use of alcoholic beverages shall not rest with the hall directors or resident advisors, but shall be the responsibility of all those living in the hall.
- Residents appearing intoxicated while in the residence halls or residence hall areas will be subject to university discipline.
- Any resident that poses a risk to self or others due to excessive alcohol consumption will be subject to hospitalization and detoxification.
- Possession
- Residents of legal drinking age who desire alcohol for personal
consumption may not bring alcohol into the hall within a 24-hour period
(8 a.m.-8 a.m) in excess of the following examples:
- Six 12 oz. cans of beer or
- 8 oz. of liquor or
- 28 oz. bottle of wine
- Possession, consumption, and/or storage of alcoholic beverages in resident rooms shall be permitted only to those residents of legal age as defined by Connecticut law.
- Possession, consumption, and/or storage of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in all common areas. This includes corridors, floor lounges, utility rooms, bathrooms, main lounges, basements, etc.
- Glass bottles of beer, full or empty, are prohibited in the residence halls.
- Alcohol may not be consumed out-of-doors on university premises.
- Purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages at residence hall special events held in a specifically designated and limited area be approved by the residence hall director and the dean of Student Affairs.
- Alcohol is prohibited from all hall and floor functions or activities.
- Kegs, beer balls, or large quantities of alcohol are strictly forbidden in the residence halls.
- Provisions must be made and approved by the residence hall director and the dean of Student Affairs to insure that alcoholic beverages served at hall special events are provided only to those individuals eligible under state law.
- Provisions at hall special events must include the availability of non-alcoholic beverages for students who choose not to drink alcohol.
- Residents of legal drinking age who desire alcohol for personal
consumption may not bring alcohol into the hall within a 24-hour period
(8 a.m.-8 a.m) in excess of the following examples:
- Residents must take responsibility for the conduct of their guests at all times.
- Guests are forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages into the residence halls.
- Guests must be of legal age to consume alcohol.
- Guests of legal age residents are permitted to consume alcohol only in the room of the resident into which they are signed.
- No deliveries of alcohol are to be made to the residence hall or the residence hall campus area, except for officially sanctioned special events.
