Come Home to Southern

Living on campus is your best opportunity to take advantage of all that SCSU has to offer.  Our residence halls provide safe, supportive environments where you can have a successful college experience. Our professional and student staff members are here to assist you with accessing campus resource, helping you to meet other students, and offering support and encouragement.   If you are interested in living on campus, please follow these important steps:

ONE:                Visit www.southernct.edu/residencelife to see 360 degree room tours and get descriptions of building features and service, and meet the staff. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions at reslife@southernct.edu.

TWO                 Complete the on line housing application, which you can do only after you have applied to the university. Upon our confirmation that you have been accepted as a student and paid your admissions confirmation fee, your student account will be assessed the $250.00 non-refundable housing deposit which will reserve your room. Payment of the deposit may be made at the Bursar's office, Wintergreen Building or paid on-line through your student account. You will be notified when your housing deposit has been applied to your account via your SCSU e-mail.

THREE             You will receive your housing assignment - including information on your hall, room and roommates -- when you come to New Student Orientation. Note: New students who make their deposits for admissions and housing deposits  in timely fashion have the best chance of being assigned on-campus housing, as housing is limited.

FOUR               Verify that your student account is paid prior to move-in day, as students with unpaid accounts may be denied access or be removed for the Housing reservation lists.  To verify, check http://bannerweb.southernct.edu. New students must also be in health compliance as indicated below.

 Make Healthy Choices

We are committed to doing our part to make sure that you remain healthy, that nothing interrupts your academic success while you are a student here. The university provides basic primate care to all full-time students and facilitates referrals to the regional medical community.

Specifically each full-time student must:

  • Submit health information and immunization (MMR) documentation. All full-time undergraduates must submit the Health Examination Report Form (completed and signed by a health care provider) prior to  participation in New Student Orientation. This form is available on line at www.southernct.edu/healthservices/healthforms. We urge you to make an appointment with your family physician as soon as possible. Contact the Student Health Service at 203 392-6300 with questions.
  • Submit documentation of meningitis documentation (for on campus residential students only) . Connecticut state law requires that all students living in university residence facilities provide documentation of meningitis vaccination . YOU WILL NOTE BE PERMITTED TO CHECK-IN WITHOUT COMPLETED DOCUMENTATION.  Contact the Student Health Services t 203 392-6300 with questions.
  • Verify your health insurance coverage.   All full-time undergraduate students are required to have health insurance. All students are automatically billed each semester for university group accident and sickness  insurance, provided by the Chickering Group   If you wish to keep this coverage, you need not do anything. To waive this coverage, go to www.chickerihng.com. Click on "Student connection," search by school name, and enter our policy number  (890434). The deadline to waiver this coverage for the Fall 2008 semester and to have the charge for insurance removed from your bill is early October 2008.
