Dear Residence Hall student,
As you prepare for move-in day and the beginning of
the fall semester, we would like to take a moment to provide you with a few
helpful tips. Taking the time to read the sections below will greatly
decrease the chance of internet problems on move-in day.

How do I know my Windows
passwork (NetID) is valid?
To validate your NetID, go to https://remote.southernct.edu and log in with your username
and password. If you fail to log in, please contact SCSU OIT Help Desk at
203-392-5123 for assistance. Help Desk hours have been extended to 6pm
this week for additional coverage. We encourage you to make sure that
your NetID is valid before you arrive on campus.
As of this semester, there is limited wireless
coverage in the Residence Halls. Wireless connectivity can be found in
the main lobby and lounges of each Residence Hall. To connect to ResNet
in your respective room, it is recommended that you turn off wireless and plug
yourself directly in to the network. See the ResNet section below for more info
on the Residential Network.
In each Residence Hall there is high speed internet 24
hours a day 7 days a week. You can access the high speed internet by
plugging yourself directly in to the Data outlet in the wall. Please make
sure that you connect to the Data jack and not the grey Voice jack. For
rooms with more than one student, it is necessary to use a hub. See the Hub
section below for information on how to set up your hub.
Residence Hall rooms are outfitted with only one Data
jack. A hub allows multiple students to connect to the internet through
this single data jack. Residence Life provides hubs to all Residence Hall
students. For 2 students, 3 ethernet cables are needed. One cable
connects the data jack to the hub and the additional Ethernet cables for each
student to the hub. If the internet works by plugging directly in to the
Data jack but not when the computers are plugged in to the hub then you should
reference diagram at the bottom of the page that shows you how set-up the hub properly. For all hub
problems, please contact your Hall Director. For all Data jack problems,
please contact the OIT Help Desk.
For the last week of summer we are extending our Help
Desk hours to 6pm Monday through Thursday. Friday hours will stay the same with
the Help Desk closing at 4pm. Also, we will be available during the
Sunday of Move-In weekend from 10am to 2pm in Office Building 1. All
