the scsu foundation
Our Purpose:
Established in 1972, the SCSU Foundation's purpose is to solicit, receive, and administer gifts and financial resources from private sources for the benefit of all programs at Southern. The foundation has corporate responsibility for fundraising, director education, and the election of members who will support Southern's educational and public service programs and initiatives.
LEADERS IN PHILANTHROPY:
The foundation's long-range goal is to be a leader in philanthropy and to provide the ongoing support Southern needs to fulfill its mission, both on campus and in the community.
Objectives:
- Include members who value and can help realize Southern's mission.
- Structure sub-committees that address future fund-raising needs of the institution.
- Formulate policies to ensure that investments are well managed and financial checks and balances are in place. This is a required compliance not only with state and CSUS regulators, but also with the Code of Ethics that binds non-profit charitable institutions.
FUND-RAISING PROGRAMS:
Monies raised help fund scholarships, faculty support services, student services, technology, faculty research, professorships, lectureships, and initiatives that promote the university's strategic plan. The vital components of our fund-raising programs are:
- Personal gifts of cash
- Stocks

- Life insurance
- Life income contributions
- Corporate and private foundation gifts
- Government grants
BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The SCSU Foundation's elected board of volunteers is an influential group that:
- Assumes the fiduciary responsibilities of governing the foundation
- Serves as advocates for SCSU fundraising
- Enhances the university's image in the business community, philanthropic circles, government, and general public.
