" A beacon of light on Southern's Campus"
Welcome to SCSU's University Counseling Services Website
College is an exciting, and sometimes stressful time. For many, it is the first time away from home. Students are faced with increased study time, independence, social pressures, time management, and responsibilities. Some students may face problems that are not easily resolved. They may also find it difficult to deal with problems in the usual way and that talking with friends or relatives about their problems just isn't working as it did in the past.
University Counseling Services provides students the opportunity to talk with a professional counselor about their issues. The office is staffed by professional counselors and social workers. It is a place to meet with an objective person who can help him/her in many ways, like developing problem solving and coping skills. Students can then apply what they learn about themselves and/or their particular situation in the "real world" so that they can begin to effectively deal with problems outside of the counseling setting.
University Counseling Services offers a wide variety of resources to help students adjust to life on campus. Our primary purpose is to provide psychological support as students pursue academic and personal goals and to enhance the quality of their experience at Southern Connecticut State University.
Online Screenings |
Depression and Eating Disorder Screenings are offered every year through the counseling center. If you miss either screening or would prefer to take the screening in the privacy of your own room, go to the following website and follow the prompts to take online mental health screenings. Your results may indicate that it would be a good idea to seek counseling. If so, or if you would just like to talk with a mental health professional, call University Counseling Services at 392-5475.

A disclaimer about electronic mail:
We discourage students from communicating personal problems through email. With the nature of email, we cannot guarantee your confidentiality, nor do we operate on a 24 hour basis, so we cannot guarantee that your email will be read and answered in a timely manner. We also prefer and suggest that a student make a face-to-face appointment with a counselor to discuss specific needs.
