University Policies
The Social Work Department abides by the university policies for undergraduate students. WRITING CENTER
The university has a writing center available for undergraduate students. This center has online writing tips and individual appointments to assist students as they enhance their written communication skills. See http://www.southernct.edu/writingcenter
DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER (DRC)
The DRC is a university office that works with students to obtain access to an equitable education. The DRC provides faculty with formal letters that state the kinds of accomodations that students require. Students are required to provide instructors with a DRC letter if they are asking for a specific accomodation. In addition, the DRC has many student services and supports. http://www.southernct.edu/drc
OFFICE OF STUDY SKILLS ENRICHMENT (OSSE)
This office has resources online, in workshops, and in individual tutorials to help students enhance their ability to learn with such topics as time management, studying, objective and essay test-taking, researching papers, drafting papers, class presentations, etc. http://www.southernct.edu/studyskillsenrichment
COUNSELING SERVICES
The university has a free counseling center on campus for all Southern students. The counseling center provides screening, support groups, short-term counseling, and assists with referrals to area counseling centers if medication or further therapy is needed. BULEY LIBRARY
The library offers a range of useful services for faculty and students: 1) online databases and electronic versions of numerous journals that can be accessed remotely or on campus; 2) a collection of videos and DVDs; 3) electronic course reading reserves; and 4) Lisa Bier, the reference librarian for Social Work (bierl1@southernct.edu; 392-5131).
