Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD)
Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the International Sociology Honor Society. The organization was founded in 1920 by Dr. Emory Bogardus who wanted an organization that would stimulate scholarship while also promoting an interest in the study of society.
This year, Southern Connecticut State University's chapter, Eta of Connecticut is being advised by Dr. Caleb Rosado (rosadoc3@southernct.edu; 392-5683) and Dr. Jessica Kenty-Drane (kentydranej1@southernct.edu; 392-5689).
AKD accepts students at the graduate and undergraduate level and staff/faculty as members. Undergraduate students interested in AKD at SCSU must have a minimum GPA of 3.5. This is actually higher than the 3.0 minimum GPA set by the international society. Students must be officially declared as sociology majors or demonstrate an interest in sociology within an official program at SCSU. Students must be at least junior status (third year). They must also have maintained a 3.0 GPA in sociology courses prior to their initation into AKD. Finally, they must have completed at least four regular courses in sociology prior to their initiation.
Graduate students must be admitted into graduate student at SCSU. They must also have completed 1/2 year of graduate study in sociology with a GPA of B or better. and continued matriculation in a program leading toward a graduate degree in sociology at SCSU.
Staff/Faculty members at SCSU must have received a Ph.D. in sociology or employment as a sociologist prior to their initiation into AKD.
