WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE placement/STAMP test/waiver exam?

The placement is an online self-assessment tool to assist you in placing yourself in the appropriate World Language course.  You will be presented with individual concrete situations which you might encounter in the World Language of your choice and asked to reflect on your ability to comprehend or to produce language in the individual situation.  Occassionally, we provide examples to help clarify the situation or the expectation of your language production.  Always, we ask you to honestly assess your ability and choose one of the alternatives provided.

The waiver exam consists of multiple-choice questions that test grammar, vocabulary, situational phrases, and reading comprehension. It takes about 75 minutes.  Students who test high on the exam will have an opportunity to waive foreign language for credit by taking an oral exam.  Students can take the oral exam during the spring or fall semesters, depending on when they take the exam and faculty availability.
