The Ronald D. Herron Day of Service
The Ronald D. Herron Day of Service which will be on September 20th is now in its 8th year. This day is designated annually for Southern students, faculty, and staff to gather in the local community and work side by side on service projects benefitting New Haven neighborhoods and the greater New Haven community. Participating in a Day of Service fosters friendship, promotes service, and leaves a positive imprint on our community.
Students may register as a group or as an individual from now until 10pm on Wednesday, September 18th. Most of our sites can accommodate between 20-30 students and we will do our best to accommodate all groups so they can travel and work together throughout the day. However, with large groups, they may be separated in order to meet the needs of a community. Placements will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. As many classes, included Inquiry classes, include the Day of Service in their course work, we will do our best to keep all students and their instructors together at sites.
Students that register as individuals will be placed at sites with groups.

The primary contact for the group should complete the registration and upload the
roster of participants. We will communicate important information to the primary contact.

Inquiry and Other Classes- The instructor, Peer Mentor or primary contact for the group should complete this
form and submit it to the Office of Student Life. Students in classes that are attending
as a group should not register individually. To register, please see your INQ Instructor,
Peer Mentor or visit the Office of Student Life in ASC 212.
Individual Registration- Individual students, faculty or staff that would like to participate in the Day of Service should register through Collegiate Link. They will be placed with a group for the day. To register, please visit Collegiate Link by clicking here.
Day of Service Schedule
8:15am- 9:15am- Check-In Adanti Student Center, Main Dining Area. After checking in, students will recieve their volunteer t-shirt and be invited to enjoy a light breakfast.
9:15am- 10:00am -Boarding the Buses
We will be boarding the buses and traveling to sites throughout Hamden and New Haven. Lunches will be provided.
10:00am- 3:00pm-Working in the Community
We will arrive at different sites throughout Hamden and New Haven and begin completing our service projects.
2:00pm- 4:30pm Return to Campus/ VIP Reception
Upon returning to campus, you will be invited to a special VIP reception only for students that participated in the Day of Service. The reception will be held in the Academic Quad where you will be treated to delicious treats and enter your name into a drawing for prizes.
