Join the SCSU Service Commission!
The SCSU Service Commission (formerly known as the Service Team) is made up of students
dedicated to serving the local community. The Service Commission fulfills this mission
through collaboration with other organizations on campus, as well as agencies within
the community. The Service Commission works toward fostering long-term relationships
with agencies within the community to do as much good and provide as much help as
possible. They focus on education and awareness on campus, through presenting to classes
and organizations, holding programs/awareness events, and keeping the conversation
about service alive on campus. The Service Commission also provides on and off campus
service opportunities and experiences for Southern students and staff.
Volunteering in the Community
The Service Commission provides students the opportunity to volunteer in the New Haven community. Members volunteer at local schools, nursing homes, animal shelters and food pantries. Saturdays of Service is a new program which allows students to volunteer at different locations in New Haven on a Saturday or Sunday each month.
On Campus Service Projects
Service Commission performs on campus service activities for all students to take part in. Service activities include blanket making, dog toy making, decorating cards and creating snack bags for local schoolchildren.
Service Commission assists in the planning and development of Southern's campus wide service events - Day of Service, Adopt A Family Food Drive, Friends of Rudolph and the Big Event.
Service Commission meets every Wednesday from 1:00-2:00pm in ASC 233.
