Know how to protect yourself
Personal safety is something that we are all responsible for. In order to ensure that we do not become a victim, here are a few useful tips to protect yourself:
- Always trust your intuition... it is better to be safe than sorry!

- Be ALERT. Know who is around you and what activities are going on
- If you are in danger, yell and call 911
- Have your keys ready when approaching your car or a building
- Vary your driving and/or walking routine
- Do not talk about your social/personal life including vacation plans where strangers can overhear you
- Always carry some type of identification (drivers license, state ID card, etc)
- Carry a cell phone and identify and ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact in your phone
- Avoid walking in poorly lit places
- Walk with authority and scan your surroundings
- Carry a flashlight, whistle, pepper stray, etc. when walking at night

Motor vehicle accidents happen far too often and many times can be avoided. Many accidents are caused due to speeding, agressive driving, fatique and sleepiness, cell phone use, and alcohol and other drugs. Here are some useful tips that may prevent amotor vehicle accident from occurring:
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
- Keep your car in good working condition
- Allow for plenty of following distance
- Slow down if the weather is bad
- Stop completely at stop signs
- Use special care at intersections and construction zones
- Do not pass on two-lane roads
- Use common sense!
