Join us for an interactive multi-media program by the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame (CWHF) and learn about some of the state’s powerful female voices for change in our democracy. Discover the power your own voice can have by exploring the inspirational stories of suffrage advocates like Alice Paul and Isabella Beecher Hooker, prominent female firsts like Ella Grasso and Denise Nappier and social activists like Helen Keller, Anne Stanback and Estelle Griswold.

Men's Group: Rules of Consent (MI)

During this discussion we will learn the terminology and definitions of sexual assault, and explore how masculinity is linked to sexual assault. We will look at gender pressures, types of sexual assault, and other forms of sexually motivated violence including stalking. We welcome you to join us for this discussion.

Red Flag Campaign (WC/MI)

Date: Monday, October 21st - Friday, October 25th

The Red Flag Campaign is a public awareness campaign designed to address dating violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on college campuses. The campaign was created using a “bystander intervention” strategy, encouraging friends and other campus community members to “say something” when they see warning signs ("red flags") for dating violence in a friend’s relationship. The campaign posters reflect racially and ethnically diverse models, and illustrate both heterosexual and same-sex relationships.

Amy’s Story is a documentary that explores the complexities of domestic violence. Telling Amy’s Story, is based on the timeline of events that lead to a domestic violence homicide in 2001.

 

 

Straight Laced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Upstraight

Please join the Women's Center for an engaging film that explores the lives of 50 students from diverse backgrounds, and investigates the gender pressures they face in their day to day lives. This film exposes gender stereotypes that lead to homophobia, intolerance, and rigid gender policing. Following the film we will hold a brief discussion. 



Men's Group: Interpersonal Violence (MI)

Time: 1pm - 2pm

During this discussion we will look at how interpersonal violence is imbedded in the lives of men. We will discuss how male violence affects women and men, as well as take a close look at domestic violence and sexual assault.



 

Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon

Guest speaker Kelly Turner Cole, from The Compassionate Hands Assisting Interim Needs Fund Incorporated (C.H.A.I.N) will discuss her organization. Established in New Haven by Mrs. Turner-Cole, a survivor of stage 3 Breast Cancer; the C.H.A.I.N provides financial assistance for Cancer patients. The organization assist cancer patients with mortgages, rent, utilities, prescription and insurance co-pays. The C.H.A.I.N fund also offers support services such as financial counseling, nutritional, emotional and wellness workshops, and support groups.

Men's Group: Continuum of Harm (MI)

During this discussion we will use an exercise intended to show our personal beliefs as to what are and what are not harmful behaviors directed towards women. This session will challenge us to define and qualify harm as well as justify our beliefs before a group of our peers. We welcome you to join us for this discussion.
