January
Stalking is a dangerous crime that affected 6.6 million adults in the United States in one year. The better we understand the facts about stalking, the more we can do to stop it.
That's why the Stalking Resource Center, National Center for Victims of Crime, and the Office on Violence against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, launched National Stalking Awareness Month in 2004. Every January since then, communities across the country have focused on stalking - holding events, sharing information, and building awareness about the crime.
Southern Connecticut State University has joined these national efforts. Below, you
will find information that is part of the Women's Center and Men's Initiative programming
for January and Stalking Awareness Month. It is the hope of the Women's Center and
Men's Initiative that you will continue to visit this website for updates and that
you attend these programs in order to help "know, name, and stop" stalking at Southern
Connecticut State University and your communities at large.

Stalkers often use technology - such as global positioning systems, computer spyware
and cell phones - to track their victims and evade the police. This award winning,
15-minute video, A Stalking Victim Shares Her Story, is designed to train law enforcement and educate communities on stalking. A discussion
will follow and information and resources will be shared. Please contact Ebony McClease
for more information at 203-392-5786 or Mccleasee1@southernct.edu.

We may be aware of the need to protect and care for ourselves emotionally, physically
and spiritually, but did you ever think about the impact that technology has upon
this self-care? This discussion will focus on what "Protecting Yourself" looks like
in a technological age where physical boundaries are sometimes irrelevant and why
this is important. Please contact Ebony McClease for more information at 203-392-5786
