Dr. Herron joined Southern in January 2006 and has observed: "The collegiate years are some of the most potentially rewarding and exhilarating in a young person's life. I urge all students to engage themselves actively -- even passionately -- in all aspects of their learning, whether inside or outside the classroom; to contribute to the quality of the intellectual and social life of the university; and to participate fully in the university and larger regional community. I believe in students. Their thoughtful participation in all aspects of institutional life energizes all of us to create an even stronger, student-centered academic community."
