Campus Shuttle Service Update

campus shuttleThe university has commenced a new shuttle service contract with First Transit Group, enhancing transportation opportunities on campus for students. In addition to operating the fleet, First Transit also provides shuttle dispatching services for the university.

Seven new handicapped-accessible shuttles bearing a new graphic design make daily runs. On-campus service is available Monday-Thursday from 7:30am-3:00am and Fridays from 7:30am-5 p.m.   A late-night shuttle (running Monday-Thursday 11:00 pm-3:00 am) provides on-campus shuttle services after hours. The shuttle can be easily accessed in front of Hickerson Hall or by calling First Transit at 203-281-5470 until 1:30 am and University Police at 203-392-7287 between 1:30 and 3:00 am.

Shuttle services to and from New Haven's Union Station run Monday-Thursday from 7:15am until 9:00pm, and Fridays from 7:15am until 5:00pm. There currently is no on-campus shuttle service on the weekends, but off-campus shuttles run 1pm to 9pm Saturday and Sunday. For more information, see the shuttle schedule page linked on the left.

There is no longer service from the Eli Whitney Technical High School parking lot, due to major renovations at that site, but commuters have a new lot available on campus -- Lot 6, adjacent to the West Campus Residence Complex -- which links up with the shuttle service via a stop at nearby Hickerson Hall.

In an added feature, students can now track the progress of shuttles around campus through Street Eagle, a GPS-based app usable on any smart phone.

First Transit also provides shuttle dispatch services from 7 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on weekdays and during weekend operating hours. Students should call 203-281-5470 for shuttle questions or concerns during these times.

The university also offers a number of other transportation options, including:

  • NuRide, an online ride-sharing network
  • R.I.D.E.S.
  • U-PASS, valid for unlimited trips on Connecticut Transit local buses
  • Zipcar, vehicles available on demand, on campus 24/7
