What is an adult student?

Adult students are older, not right-out-of-high-school students. They are transfers, veterans, returning students, etc.

 

Where is the office, and when can I visit it?

The office, a component of Student Supportive Services, is located in Engleman Hall B018. It is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drop by in person or call (203) 392-6822.

 

What exactly are the veterans benefits with which the office can help?

You can obtain information about the G.I. bill and laws that provide rehabilitation and educational assistance to disabled or war veterans and their dependents. You can also find out about medical entitlements, discharge upgrading, pension, insurance, and other benefits available from the Veterans Administration.

 

Am I eligible for a tuition waiver?

In accordance with Subsection (b) (2) and (d)(2) of Section 10A-99 of the Connecticut General Statutes, any veteran who served as stated below who has been accepted for admission, and who is a resident of Connecticut at the time of admission is eligible.

ACTIVE DUTY FOR AT LEAST 90 DAYS DURING KOREA PERSIAN GULF

  •     June 27 1950, to January 31, 1955
  •     August 2, 1990 to June 30, 1994


VIETNAM / WORLD WAR II

  •     December 22, 1961 to July 1, 1974
  •     December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946


COMBAT OR SUPPORT DURING:

GRENADA INVASION

  •     October 25, 1983 to December 15, 1983

LEBANON PEACEKEEPING MISSION

  •     September 29, 1982 to March 30, 1984


OPERATION EARNEST WILL

(Kuwaiti oil tanker escorts)

  •     February 1, 1987 to December 15, 1983


PANAMA INVASION

  •     December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990


NOTE: To establish eligibility, bring Copy 4 of your DD214 (Report of Separation from Active Duty) to the office.

Does Veterans/Adult Student Services deal with things that are not related to veterans issues?

 

Yes, you can visit the office for answers to a wide range of questions. Perhaps you would like to ask about courses, majors, or careers. Maybe you want to talk over some personal matters relating to family or friends. Whatever your questions or problems, the Veterans/Adult Student Services counselor is ready to give you information and guidance in a variety of areas. The counselor will keep all your conversations absolutely confidential.

 

Are there student organizations associated with this office?

The Veterans Association provides veterans with the opportunity to share the bond developed through military service. Its direction is determined by its members and includes campus and community service, social activities, and veterans awareness programs.

SOARS (Southern Association of Returning Students) serves, protects, and advances the common interests of returning older students.
