cell phone donation
donate a used cell phone and save lives!
In the time it will take you to read this information, a victim of domestic violence will be assaulted by a partner.
If this saddens or angers you, you'll be glad to know that there's something you can do - and it will cost you nothing.
You know that wireless cell phone you're no longer using? The one that's sitting in your drawer or closet right now? Experts estimate there are more than 30 million inactive phones in the U.S.
Your unused cell phone could literally save the life of one of the estimated 5000 victims who are beaten and abused every day.
The SCSU Women's Center is participating in a national program called "CALL to PROTECT" and is collecting used wireless phones to benefit victims of domestic violence. This program distributes recycled pre-programmed emergency wireless phones free of charge to domestic violence victims. The phones can serve as an emergency lifeline for them - the only lifeline that may be available to them in a time of crisis. Neither you nor the victim will be charged for any emergency calls made. All airtime is donated by local wireless carriers. So be sure to deactivate your phone service and erase all personal information prior to making your dona
tion.
Please bring an old or used cell phone to the Women's Center in Schwartz Hall or to the Michael J. Adanti Student Center Information Lobby collection box. All cell phones will be donated to the Wireless Foundation.
Any type of phone can be used. Cell phones donated with a charger will be given specifically to the Domestic Violence Services of New Haven. Please help protect victims of domestic violence and donate your used phone today!
