Work/life balance conference
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
9AM - 3PM

Do you find yourself overwhelmed, exhausted and unable to balance a job and your personal life? For anyone, maintaining a balance in the job, school, and personal life can be challenging. Both men and women - whether they are married or unmarried, parents or not, caring for aging parents or beloved pets - can struggle with the often competing demands of work and home. Dr. Kyle Pruett and Dr. Marsha Kline Pruett will discuss the importance of work-life balance and how that may be attained when they deliver the keynote address at the third annual Work-Life Balance Conference to be held at Southern on Friday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Kyle Pruett is a noted child psychiatrist and author, and Marsha Kline Pruett is a clinical psychologist who treats children, adults and families. The Pruetts, who are married to each other, will share their personal experiences with both having demanding careers and raising children, as well as speaking from a professional standpoint on achieving work-life balance.
Registration is $35, or $30 per person for groups of 10 or more. A student rate is available; contact us for details. For more information, please contact, Starsheemar Byrum at the Women's Center at 203-392-5786.

Take Back the Night has inspired both men and women to confront a variety of social issues, including rape, sexual violence, domestic violence, and violence against women and children. The unifying theme throughout this evening is the assertion that everyone has the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated.
We invite you, faculty and students, fraternities and sororities, athletes and organizers to all come together to embrace your SCSU community and be the solution that ends violence.

"...on that day, that day of truce, that day when not one woman is raped, we will begin the real practice of equality, because we can't begin it before that day. Before that day it means nothing because it is nothing: it is not real; it is not true. But on that day it becomes real. And then, instead of rape we will for the first time in our lives--both men and women--begin to experience freedom. If you have a conception of freedom that includes the existence of rape, you are wrong. You cannot change what you say you want to change. For myself, I want to experience just one day of real freedom before I die. I leave you here to do that for me and for the women whom you say you love." - Andrea Dworkin
Love your Body
Monday, October 20th
11:00am-1:30pm Connecticut Hall Table
8pm FARNHAM HALL Film Showing
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you find YOUR definition of beauty or the picture on your television screen? As you walk your walk, do you find yourself not measuring up to the ideal beauty? In today's American society, notions of beauty are overrun with impractical images. From Barbie's unrealistic waistline to American's next top model, standing at 5'8" dreading the 110lbs mark. So you may not fit into America's confined mold of beauty but be the beholder of your beauty and define it for yourself.
The Women's Center would like to invite you to attend our "See Beauty" program. In salute of "Love Your Body Day," October 20th at 11:00am-1:30pm come by Connecticut Hall to support love for your body. We would like to encourage you to be definers of your beauty and to have esteem in your flaws and ALL.
Later on in the evening, we will present Jean Kilbourne's "Killing Us Softly" in Farnham Residence Hall at 8pm. This film presents a study of gender representation in advertising.
Do you see your "self" in today's representation of advertising? Do these advertisements define your measurement as a woman? Come "See Beauty"! For more information, please contact Kelly Taylor at the Women's Center, 203-392-2946.

Through his interactive program, Domitrz demonstrates to students how asking is not only "the 'right' thing to do is but that it is also "romantic, sexy, and fun." He uses a unique approach in educating his audience on the need to ask before they act.
