2) Run setup to download and install the
software
Back to top.
Start the setup program you just downloaded. You should get the
following screen.

Click Next >.
Choose Install from Internet and click Next >.
Accept the default Root Directory (most likely C:\cygwin) and other options by
clicking Next >.
Pick a local package directory. This is where the setup program
will store the software as it downloads. You may take the default
(most likely C:\cyginstall)
or enter a different location. Click Next >.
Click Next > again.
In the Choose A Download Site dialog box, type ftp://www.southernct.edu/pub/cygwin
in the User URL: text box, and click Add. Make sure the ftp://www.southernct.edu line
in the Available Download Sites box is highlighted, and click Next >.
You should get a screen that looks like this.

Click the View button
once. The word Category should change to Full. Scroll down
until you see the package openssh. Click the Skip icon
next to openssh once. It
should turn into a version number. Continue scrolling down
until you see the package XFree86-base.
Click the Skip icon
next to XFree86-base once. It should also turn into a version
number.
Click Next >.
When the setup program finishes, Cygwin is installed. If you are
planning to use Cygwin for remote connection to the SCSU math
department computer lab, continue with step 3.

3) Download scripts

Download both of these scripts and save them in the C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\
folder. You may have to right-click these links and select Save
Link As...
- startxdesktop.bat
- startxterm.bat
