Unit IX: Evaluating Your own Research/Writing
Read: Pan, at least two model reviews on pp. 117-185
SELF-EVALAUTION OF PAPER:
Each student should critique (in a narrative form) his or her own paper. You should use the criteria suggested in Unit VII under Lecture Notes. A summary of these criteria can be found in Unit VIII. Also use the following questions to evaluate the content and organization of your final paper. [NOTE: the criteria you have been given in Units VIII and IX will be used in grading your final paper.]
- Is the introduction clear and complete?
- Does the statement of purpose adequately and logically orient the reader?
- Is the literature adequately reviewed?
- Are the citations appropriate and complete?
- Is the research question clearly identified, and is the hypothesis explicit?
- Are the conceptualizations and rationale perfectly clear?
- Is the method clearly and adequately described? That is, can the study be replicated from the description provided in the paper?
- Are the techniques of data analysis appropriate, and is the analysis clear?
- Is the discussion thorough? Does it stick to the point and confine itself to what can be concluded from the findings of the study?
- Is the paper concise?
- Is the paper prepared according to APA style?
Begin each critique with the citation, for example:
-
Brown, M. E. (2001). Crossing the divide: Empowering the Have-Nots in the Information Age. Unpublished manuscript, Southern Connecticut State University, Department of Information and Library Science, New Haven.]
- Critique your final paper. Post to the appropriate thread.
- Continue making final edits to your course paper.
