ILS 503 - Foundations of Librarianship

The development structure and function of library/information agencies.

When you have completed this course, you should be able to:

  • demonstrate collaborative learning behavior;
  • design and demonstrate [exhibit] an information service;
  • produce a graduate quality paper based on an exploration of one type of agency;
  • plan and present an informational program based on your term paper.

ILS 517 - History of Children's Literature

Study of materials that have lasted over the years and examination of periodic trends and social patterns which produced them. Emerging types of children's writing and major authors are considered.

Upon successful completion of this course students will to able to:
  • discuss the development of children's literature from the Anglo-Saxon period up to the Vietnam War
  • examine the varied literature resulting from changing social and cultural developments
  • re-evaluate older books and classics
  • become familiar with publications, authors, and illustrators whose work made significant contributions to children's literature
  • evaluate the reading interests of children throughout the ages

ILS 518 - History of Books and Printing

A study of the history of books and printing, including papermaking, printing, binding, and book illustration.

ILS 599 Introduction to Archival and Museum Work

An introduction to work in archives and museums including basic theories and methodologies and to the application of archival and museum theory in the digital world.

  • Describe the basic principles of arrangement and description in archives and museums
