MASTER OF LIBRARY SCEINCE ­ Undeclared Track

As of April 2000, all students are placed on the Undeclared Track upon admission to the MLS program. Students may declare a track and submit a Planned Program for that track after completion of LSI 501, LSC 503, LSC 504, and LSC 506. All students must declare a track and complete an appropriate Planned Program for that track in order meet requirements for the MLS degree.

GROUP I REQUIREMENTS

(students awaiting admissions decision may enroll for these courses):
LSI 501 Introduction to Information Science and Technology
LSC 503 Foundations of Librarian

GROUP II REQUIREMENTS

(prerequisite: group I requirements):
LSC 504 Reference and Information Resources and Services
LSC 506 Information Analysis and Organization

GROUP III REQUIREMENTS

(prerequisite: group II requirements):
Pick one from the following:
LSC 507 Special Libraries and Documentation Centers
LSC 521 School Library Media Centers
LSC 530 College and University Libraries
LSC 532 Public Libraries
LSC 551 Digital Libraries
LSC 555 Acquisitions and Development of Library and Information Resources

GROUP IV REQUIREMENTS

(prerequisite: group III requirements):
LSC 611 Library Management
LSC 547 Automation
LSC 614 Advanced Reference Materials and Services
LSC 662 Management of Electronic Resources and Services
LSC 576 Preservation of Library Materials
LSI 580 Evaluation and Research

NOTE: Any courses, other than Group I courses taken prior to matriculation may not count toward the MLS degree. Any courses taken that are not part of the approved Planned Program may not count toward the MLS degree.
