Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Bailey, Hilary Strange Adventures of Charlotte Holmes London: Constable, 1994 1994 Refocalization Expansion JtR Charlotte is Sherlock and Mycroft's sister, friend of Mary Morstan Watson. SH has a breakdown off-stage because he got the solution to Hound wrong. Charlotte has an affair with Prince Rudolph of Kravonia, flirts with "Jules" Lestrade, solves Jack the Ripper mystery
SH=JtR
. Use of first names is anachronism xtreme. RP cameos Wilde, GB Shaw, others.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Bangs, John Kendrick Pursuit of the Houseboat NY: Harper & Brothers, 1901 1901 Crossover SH cameo Sequel to The House-Boat, about a gathering of famous dead people's shades. In this, the House-Boat has been stolen by Capt. Kidd with all of the women on board. Holmes appears at the beginning and later to pilot the rescue boat. Parody. Mostly RPs with some dubious inclusions from Shakespeare (Portia, Shylock) and the Bible (Noah, Mrs. Noah, Delilah, etc.) Dedicated to ACD with thanks for killing off Holmes (so he could appear with the shades).
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Bensen, D.R. Sherlock Holmes in New York NY: Ballantine, 1976 1976 Which came first, book or TV movie?
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Berger, Arthur Asa Durkheim is Dead Walnust Creek CA: Altamira, 2003 2003 "SH is introduced to sociological theory." RPs Dubois, Durkheim, Freud, Lenin, Simmel, Webb, Weber are all present at 1910 conference in London and a dinner hosted by Lady Bracknell (sorry, Oscar). Marianne Weber asks SH for help with her deranged husband, Max. Each theorist talks to Holmes in lines from their works, thus introducing their theories. Not nearly as fun as the Philosophers Song.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Biggle, Lloyd Glendower Conspiracy Tulsa: Council Oak Books, 1990 1990
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Biggle, Lloyd Quallsford Inheritance NY: St. Martin's, 1987 1987 Refocalization Expansion Narrated by Edward Porter Jones, former BSI and now apprentice to SH, moving into 221B when Watson moves out. Standard mystery. Hard to like Porter when he's dismissive of Watson and too gushy about Holmes. Disclaimer that it wasn't sponsored or authorized by estate, and not written by ACD.

Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Brown, Russell A. Sherlock Holmes & the Mysterious Friend of Oscar Wilde NY: St. Martin's Press, 1988 1988 Expansion Personalization OTT, smarmy, and smirky. Holmes as self-righteous defender of Victorian hypocrisy, Watson as latent, Wilde as voice of modernity. More parody than pastiche. And there's dialect. Cobbled together quotes from canon and Wilde.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Bugge, Carole Haunting of Torre Abbey NY: St. Martin's Minotaur, 2000 2000 Expansion RPs=Cary family, Torre Abbey real place. Family haunted by ancestral ghosts (not unlike Hound). Repititious dialogue--same thing asked 3 ways on one page. Set during the main canon, between Mary Morstan's death and before hiatus.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Bugge, Carole Star of India NY: St. Martin's Press, 1998 1998

Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Collins, Randall Case of the Philosopher's Ring NY: Crown Publishers, 1978 1978 Expansion Personalization SH&W called to Cambridge to investigate mysterious doings among the Apostles and others. Piss-takes on eminent philosphers and mathematicians, as well as Strachey and Woolfe, might be amusing if I knew more than the Philosophers Song (sadly, Wittgenstein here does not appear to be a beery swine).
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Conant, Susan Barker Street Regulars NY: Doubleday, 1998 1998 Personalization SH fans turn sleuth
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Cooper-Posey, Tracy Case of the Reluctant Agent Winnipeg, MB:Ravenstone Press, 2001 2001
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Cooper-Posey, Tracy Chronicles of the Lost Years Winnipeg, MB:Ravenstone Press, 1999 1999 Recontextualization Personalization Expansion Not badly written but a total Mary Sue. Elizabeth Sigerson has burnished copper hair, startling green eyes, every skill known to man or woman, is highly intelligent and logical, and every man is in love with her. Especially Holmes who takes her with him on the Great Hiatus. Watson ellided her from Final Bow and Adventure of the Empty House, etc. for her own protection. Sherlock Holmes Society's Best Pastiche Award winner. Thanks Robert Stephens and Jeremy Brett for their portrayals of SH. As should we all.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Cornell, Paul Happy Endings London: Virgin, 1996 1996 Dr. Who!
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Cover, Arthur Byron East Wind Coming NY: Berkley Books, 1979 1979 Dislocation Genre shift Trying for the tone HHGG and Fforde easily achieve but falling far far short. Holmes and others are immortal, there are parallel universes, etc.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Cullin, Mitch Slight Trick of the Mind NY: Anchor Books, 2005 2005 SH is 93 in 1947. Nice defense of Watson but use of "John" and "Sherlock" feels odd. H in postwar Japan and Sussex, mixed with solo Edwardian mystery. All about emptiness and loss.

Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes D'Artagnan, Robert Sherlock Holmes's Last Case US: Xlibris, 2001 2001 Could not obtain.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Davies, David Stuart Scroll of the Dead Ashcroft BC: Calabash Press, 1998 1998 Expansion Calabash Press=fanzine press? Not really a mystery, more of a pursuit of the Egyptian Scroll of the Dead which might or might not hold the secret to resurrecting the dead. Villain is plump and gay=two stereotypes in one. Such economy.
Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Davies, David Stuart Sherlock Holmes & the Hentzau Affari Romford: I. Henry, 1991 1991

Doyle, A.C. Sherlock Holmes Davies, Martin Mrs. Hudson & the Spirits Curse New York: Berkeley Publishing Group, 2004 2004 Refocalization Recontextualization GRoS Mrs. Hudson is the true detective brain, founder of the Irregulars, etc. Holmes is not a complete idiot, just not as good. Watson is nearly Nigelian, but also too fond of drink and is oddly referred to as conducting experiments (and those artworks are porn?). Stories are narrated by Hudson's Watson, Flotsam aka Flottie, an orphan rescued from the streets and trained as a maid and more by Hudson. Main villain Fogarty is Moriarty. This book uses the Giant Rat of Sumatra. Meta: cameo by Raffles with joke about him being related to Holmes by marriage (but called in by Hudson, who knows everyone).
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Day, Barry Sherlock Holmes & the Alice in Wonderland Murders London: Oberon Books, 1997 1997 Expansion 180 little pages, full of typos and even a wrong name (Royston Steel, then Creighton Steel). More adventure than mystery. John Moxton (Moriarty) is undermining the stability of the government through his newspaper empire and humiliating/killing politicians in AiW themed ways. Begins with a fake Nessie. One in a series.
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Day, Barry Sherlock Holmes & the Apocalypse Murders SI: Second Opinion, 2001 2001

Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Dechancie, John Masterminds of Falkenstein Rocklin CA: Prima Publishing, 1996 1996 Dislocation Genre shift Crossover Part of RPG or other gaming franchise. Reads like a gaming novel, unfortunately. OCs Tom Olam and Countess Marianne investigate weird goings on in alternate Victorian universe. Moriarty, Victor Frankenstein, other FPs mix with RPs like Jules Verne, Sam Clemens, Ada Lovelace.
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Dibdin, Michael Last Sherlock Holmes Story NY: Pantheon Books, 1978 1978
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Douglas, Carole Nelson Castle Rouge NY: Tom Doherty Associates, 2002 2002 Refocalization JtR Follow-up to Chapel Noir.Irene Adler Norton, Stanhope, Nellie Bly, Bram Stoker on trail of cult/kidnappers of Nell and Godfrey. SH in London reinvestigating JtR. Rothschild, Prince of Wales, Buffalo Bill also appear.
Recurring character Tatiana aka Sable is behind cult's activities with Moran and "Medved" who is actually Rasputin. Yes. Rasputin was Jack the Ripper.
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Douglas, Carole Nelson Chapel Noir NY: Tom Doherty Associates, 2001 2001 Refocalization JtR Needs to be read in conjunction with Castle Rouge which follows it. Double pastiche intro with fake Fiona Witherspoon explaining her role as editor of Huxleigh mss. RPs: Bram Stoker, Rothschild, Nellie Bly, Buffalo Bill. It appears that Jack the Ripper is active in Paris.
Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Douglas, Carole Nelson Femme Fatale NY: Tom Doherty, 2003 2003 Refocalization Nellie Bly, SH, etc. in NYC, possibly on the trail of IAN's mother, who may or may not be Lola Montez.

Doyle. A.C. Sherlock Holmes Douglas, Carole Nelson Spider Dance NY: Tom Doherty Associates, 2004 2004 Refocalization Holmes sets IAN on trail of long-deceased Lola Montez, who may have been Adler's mother. Many--too many--references to recently concluded Ripper case. POV changes from Nell to Holmes to Nellie Bly. Montez quest dovetails with Holmes' case for the Vanderbilts. It involves the monarchy of Bavaria, not-quite-Jesuits, and Montez's alleged fortune.
