COURSE
OBJECTIVES:

The
objective of this course is to establish a basic understanding in
the concept of islamic Insurance known as Takaful. |

METHOD
OF INSTRUCTION:

course will include discussions, readings and research.

A
paper due at the end of the course demonstrating mastery of the
learning objectives. |

PAPER
TOPIC:
|
The term paper will address the following aspects
of takaful:
a. What are the basic concepts of Islamic finance.
b. What are the concepts of conventional, "western -style"
finance that are not acceptable in Islamic finance.
c. What basic issues are addressed by "western-style"
insurance.
d. What differentiates Takaful from "western-style"
insurance.
e.What are the religious underpinnings of the Qu'ran that affect
Takaful.
