MAT 300-02L
Spring 2004
Paper #5 (for the L-section only)
Due
500-700 words. The paper should be double-spaced.
Read Chapter 6 in our text; the chapter is on Indian mathematics. Write a summary of the chapter. You should include a short discussion of which topics/developments were most important to the medieval Indian mathematicians and which topics/developments were most important to the development of our modern mathematics. You do not need to include references unless you are quoting the author of our text or directly adopting the author’s position on something. Your choices for most important developments do not have to agree with either the author’s opinion or my opinion, but they must be important. You will be penalized for excessively exceeding the word limit. I want a summary of the chapter, not a copy of it.
