The Hispanic Cultural Society regularly schedules films, speakers, student presentations, opportunities to practice speaking Spanish, field trips to New York, local area museums and restaurants.
Most often the students meet with the club advisor, Professor Marie García-Abrines, during the Community Hours, when no classes are scheduled.

Professor García-Abrines reports that last year club activities included the following:

Fall semester 1998

"We dedicated the fall semester to Columbus and the Encounter. The following is a list of our different activities:

At our inaugural event, the students read authentic selections from Columbus' diary, both in Spanish and English. Professor Leon Yacher gave a slide demonstration and lecture on the geographical aspects of Columbus' journey.

Over a four week period, Professor Rafael Hernández showed a movie about Cabeza de Vaca. Following the film, there was discussion and analysis of the nature of the meeting between the indigenous people of México and the Spaniards.

Spring semester 1999

Film and discussion about flamenco dance: Professor Luisa Piemontese-Ramos gave a lecture on "The Art of Flamenco Dance." Music and videos accompanied the lecture and demonstration.
