Finding a non-teaching job using a foreign language is more complicated -- and perhaps also much more interesting -- than finding a teaching job.  It involves using a skill that you should be developing in college -- the research skill.

The first part of the research project involves getting to know yourself better -- learning consciously many things about yourself that you probably already know unconsciously, but may not yet be able to articulate.  To do this kind of research, click on Know Yourself!, and follow the suggestions on that page.

Secondly, you need to find out more about the world of work.  Our Career Services Office in Schwartz Hall 102 can help you greatly in this area.

Also, the S.C.S.U. course "CTR 200" can help you in this research.  CTR 200, or "Career Concepts and Exploration" is described in the undergraduate catalog as follows:  Career/life planning through an examination of the student's interests, skills, and values as they interrelate with the individual, the university, and the world of work.  3 credits.

Finally, click on the Foreign Language Department's Career Library to find information on our lending library of career books especially for foreign language majors.

And of course there are many Good Sites on the internet to help you.
