Technology Addition to Syllabus
Students are encouraged to be critical of technology and to offer helpful suggestions. All questions about using our technology will be answered as well as possible.
Cell phones should not be turned on during class. If yours rings or you are seen using it, you must sing out loud a chorus of your favorite song or surrender your phone until the next class
If you need to leave your cell phone on for personal reasons, please advise the professor BEFORE class.
Laptop Lab Protocols:
- Bring your ID to each class
- Keep passwords current for MySCSU and Windows logins
- No food or drink on tables with laptops
- When getting a laptop, place your ID in the sleeve alongside the laptop you will be using, unplug the laptop (they’re charging), and carry with BOTH HANDS to your desk
- Keep laptops on clean, flat surfaces (PLEASE!). This means on a desk, not (despite the name) on your lap, draped across your legs, or teetering atop some unstable surface.
- When finished, check to remove any disks or thumb drives.
- Shut DOWN computer and WAIT for it to power down (you have to read the screen carefully, as you need to select “shut down” twice)
- Place laptop back in its shelf “home” (the number on the laptop corresponds to the numbered space).
- Make sure that the laptop number is facing out.
- Plug it in so that it charges.
- Don’t forget your ID!
- Extra batteries are available at the bottom of the computer cabinet (they’re charging, too). System needs to be powered off to change battery. You can “hot swap” (meaning while the computer is on) the drives in the laptop (from disk drives to CD/DVD). If you're not sure how to do this, ask.
- DO NOT USE INSTANT MESSAGING OR TEXT MESSAGING DURING CLASS.
- Your computer screen can be easily monitored so please stay on task and do not use laptops for personal, non-academic concerns. If you are using your laptop in ways that are not appropriate for class, you will be asked to leave.
