A week ago, Newtown's Dan Maxwell
began his kick at the bottom of the last hill before the finish line.
Unfortunately, it wasn't the last hill. It was the next to last hill, and
poor Dan was one tired puppy by the time he had kicked for 600 yards or
so. This week, though, he saved it for the right moment, and out-kicked
New Milford's Pete Matthiessen to win the 3.55 mile race by seven seconds.
The two are familiar rivals, having faced each other several times in high
school meets this year.
Among the women, Peg Molina ended Pam Quist's winning streak, in part because Pam missed the race this week.
This week's upper photo is Pam Quist, cruising toward the finish line a few weeks ago. Below is JT Schemm, last week's winner, but truant this week. Way at the bottom are some of our regular women runners, a little earlier in the season.
