2.4 miles up Chalybes April 13, 2002 |

The field was a little smaller this week, with a drizzle and a race in Danbury the next day conspiring to give people reasons to be somewhere else. Up front, it turned into a duel between two hometown folks, Homeboy Jay Kuenzle and new Roxbury resident Mike Abraham, who moved only last month. As it turned out, Abe isn't quite as sharp yet as he sometimes is, and Homeboy Jay has been a running fool of late. He doesn't realize that after you run real fast for a while, you're supposed to get tired and slow down. He welcomed poor Abe to town by clobbering him by almost 20 seconds.
Pam
Quist won for the sixth time in the eight races she's come to this year, one of
the most impressive feats we've seen in a long time. And she smiles the whole
time she does it. We reward her with a nickname, "PQ".
Kyle Gancher missed this week, resting up for Monday's Boston Marathon. So did Peg Molina. Corinne Bellemare ran Roxbury, though, as did Ed Sandifer. Monday will be Ed's 30th consecutive Boston, if he makes it. There was a nice article about Kyle and the Marathon in Friday's Danbury News Times.
Nora Hulton won her weekly duel with Judy Wilson, for a change. A couple of weeks ago, Nora was heard to complain "I bring her to the race and she beats me anyway!"
It looks like a typo, John Murphy Jr running 19:01 and finishing last in this week's race. He would have finished 31st with that time, if he had arrived on time. Something about an alarm clock.
Vern LeRoux gave Bob Derringer quite a race this week. After the race, Bob was complaining about how many times he had gone faster and faster trying to get away from Vern, but Vern just kept coming back. In the end, it was only a one second margin.
This week's pictures are this week's winners. Homeboy Jay Kuenzle and his many reflections are at the top of the page. Below is PQ, smiling, of course. Note that both of this week's winners have initials that are consecutive letters of the alphabet. JK and PQ. Some of us have too much time on our hands, don't we?
The Roxbury Races are now
listed on the Internet both on CoolRunning.com
and on HiTekRacing.com.
