Pete Repeats
PQ Wins, Too
It's
a headline-writer's dream. I mean really, who's going to write a headline
like "Pete wins second week in a row" or "Matthiessen
Clobbers
Abe Again." The headline has to be something with "Pete"
and "Repeat", doesn't it? Anything else would be
journalistically irresponsible.
It
was an exciting race, for a while. The top five finishers went through the
mile together, but Steve Benoit dropped back a bit there. Then Keyless Bob
faded on the hill and ended running with Steve most of the rest of the
way. After that, Pete just ground down his teachers. Science teacher
JT Schemm was the next to fade, and then he dumped his
coach,
social studies teacher Mike Abraham. Pete won it differently this week
than last. Last week, he went out hard and held on. This week, he
was more patient and ground down his rivals and ended up running 12 seconds
faster in the process.
PQ Pam Quist had a solid win among the women, about two minutes ahead of rivals Kyle Gancher and Peg Molina.
Today's pictures are Kyle Gancher on the left and the trio of Mo van Moffaert, Carl Hunt and Walt Schuttler on the right. Kyle ran Roxbury this week during a "break" from the all-night and all-day Run for Life. She had been up all night running, and was going back to the track to run some more with her kids. Walt missed Roxbury last week. He was running a marathon in West Virginia. That makes 17 states where Walt has run marathons, and a few foreign countries as well. Carl wants to run that 200 mile relay this fall, and Mo fits right in with this group.
The Roxbury Races are now
listed on the Internet both on CoolRunning.com
and on HiTekRacing.com.
