Abe Gets Married

Chris Bacich went out slowly, hoping to give his friend Mike Abraham the gift of a race victory on the morning of his wedding.  Brave man, running a race just six hours before his vows.

The idea of a gift lasted about fifteen seconds.  Chris dropped the hammer and clobbered poor Abe by a minute and a half.  To add further insult, Abe ran the whole 7.3 mile course with Keyless boB Derringer as his shadow, and boB surged past late in the race to take second.

Among the women, Peg Molina was most successful, taking ninth overall.

This was the first time we ran this new course, combining the 3.95 Jeep Trail course with the 3.55 mile Down Hemlock course to make a 7.3 mile monster.  (There's a little piece we cut off on Apple Lane.  We know that 3.95 + 3.55 isn't really 7.3).  We figure that from the bottom of the hill where River Road crosses Little Jack Brook to the top of Hemlock just past Chalybes Road is two and a half miles of climbing.  On such a warm morning, anybody who got to the top of the hill feeling just a wee bit tired can be forgiven.

Later in the day, our Mike Abraham married Cara Brooks at the house they finished building earlier this year.  Cara is much nicer, much smarter and much better looking than our Abe, but we like him anyway, and wish them both many years of happiness.  Congratulations.  They've planned a honeymoon in Arizona, where Abe will train at altitude for most of the week, then be back in time to defend his points lead against Keyless boB, then work at Dave Harvey's Fried Dough Tent at the Bridgewater Fair.  See, isn't Cara nice to let Mike do all that?

Our top picture this week is Peg Molina, this week's winner among the women, along with Bob Lewis and Mike Abraham.  Below that is a photo from Mike's wedding.  Cara is the one in the veil.  Our paparrazi weren't able to get any closer, due to the strict security at the celebrity event.  On the left is a photo taken four miles into today's race, while Abe still led Keyless boB.  Down below, this week's winner Chris Bacich, and another of Katie Neils.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on CoolRunning.com and on HiTekRacing.com.
