Abe improves in mid season!
The Roxbury season is a long season, over
40 races. Over the course of such a long season, some people improve.
This has made the long battle between Mike Abraham and Bob Derringer even more
exciting. Last year, Abe was a clear notch better than Keyless boB.
Bob came back this year, and gradually improved until he beat Abe three out of
four races in July and early August. Our upper picture shows boB stalking
Abe half way through the 7.3 mile race a few weeks ago. Bob eventually
took off to beat Mike in that one.
Abe, though, has found the answer. He's won Roxbury now two weeks in a row by progressively larger margins. If Abe can hold this level, it will take a real something for poor boB to close the gap again. The new shoes weren't quite enough. You shoulda bought the gold ones instead of the silver ones, boB!
The boys from New Milford High School took six of the top ten places in today's race, led by Reid McEwen and Pete Matthiessen in third and fourth. If you count the two teachers, Mike Abraham and JT Schemm, first and fifth respectively, NMHS had eight of the top ten. Their high school season starts officially on Tuesday. We hope they can do as well against WCC competition. Good luck, guys.
We hear that Carl Hunt and Walt Schuttler are passing on this week's Delaware Trail Marathon to focus on the Detroit Marathon in October. A number of others are looking forward to the Hartford Marathon, also in October.
In our upper picture today we have Bob Derringer stalking Mike Abraham a couple of weeks ago. Bob couldn't keep up on the hill today, though. Paul Teixeira is in the lower picture.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet on CoolRunning.com and on HiTekRacing.com AND on runningintheusa.com. All the great sites link to RoxburyRaces.com!
