2002 Roxbury Race #30

5.0 miles - Down Squire Road

Hat Trick for Abe

Mike Abraham just keeps getting stronger.  Married life agrees with him.  Now he's won three Roxbury races in a row, and his winning time this week was fourteen seconds faster than last week on the same course.  He seems to have recovered from that embarrassing incident with the fire hydrant, and now he is making winning look easy.

JT Schemm looked fit and fast as he led the race through the first mile, a few meters ahead of Abe and probably 15 seconds ahead of archrival Keyless boB Derringer.  Abe powered up the first big hill on Apple Lane, though, and JT faded, eventually finishing four seconds behind Keyless boB.

Vernon LeRoux also improved this week.  He finsihed fifth in 32:29, a minute and 28 seconds faster than his 15th place finish last week.

Pam Quist won for the women this week in 36:42, just seconds off Peg Molina's winning time on the same course last week.  Somehow, most weeks, one of these two is at the race, but seldom are they both there.  For a while last year, there was a rumor that they were, in fact, the same person, but, reportedly, once or twice, they have been seen together...

Let's all wish Corinne Bellemare good luck next week in her marathon in Fairbanks, Alaska.   Corinne is one of a group of Roxbury Regulars who are that kind of crazy that we all admire so much.  They are aspiring to run marathons in all 50 states.  Fossil, in pale contrast, though he has run about 80 marathons and 30 Bostons, has run them only in MA, CT, VT, RI, NY and PA, small fry in the 50 States crowd.  Send me your lifetime marathon results, and maybe over the winter I'll make a Roxbury in the Marathons page.  Maybe not.

In our upper picture today we have Bob Derringer stalking Mike Abraham a couple of weeks ago.  We keep using this picture because lately Abe has been winning and Keyless has been finishing second.  In this picture, Bob doesn't have his new shoes yet. We'll try to get a shot of the fast shoes some day.   Paul Teixeira is in the lower picture.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet on CoolRunning.com and on HiTekRacing.com AND on runningintheusa.com.  All the great sites link to RoxburyRaces.com!
