Abe and Pam Again
Mike Abraham won for the fourth week in a
row and Pam Quist won for the fourth time in the last five weeks (she missed a
race) as the Roxbury Road Races have shown a certain
regularity
lately.
Abe took the lead from the start, and, for a while, it looked like Abe and PQ would finish 1-2, as Pam went out in second place. Her pace cooled after about a half mile and she settled in to a more sane and sustainable speed. Pam turned second place over to Dave DeBoy, who, a mile later, passed it on to the Old Fossil, Ed Sandifer. At about the two mile mark, he gave it to Dangerous Ken Merrick, who held on to second clear to the finish line.
In one of the weekly duels best known to the participants, Gregg Scribner now leads Scott Benjamin on the season 20-11, besting him by an unusually large margin of 6 places. Neither has missed a race yet this year. Carl Myhill beat rival Al Mletzko this week, but couldn't quite get ahead of Bob Satterlee, missing the sweep by six seconds.
Abe left the race promptly this week because his New Milford High School cross
country teams were competing at the Bethel Invitational. Both the Boys and
the Girls are every bit as strong as they had hoped to be. We hope you'll
all check the Sunday papers to see how they did.
Our upper picture is Gregg Scribner, now leading Scott Benjamin 20-11 on the season. To the left is Al Mletzko being pursued by his shadow. Down below we have Rapid Lynn Zuback, getting ready for the Hartford Marathon in October, and below that is Paul Teixeira, who, in contrast to Al Mletzko, is chasing his shadow. Hope you catch it, Tex!
