2002 Roxbury Race #38

Quist, MacWilliams Lead Fast Week

Roxbury's won Bryan MacWilliams notched the fastest time of the year on the 3.55 mile course in the eleventh time we've run the course this year (counting both directions.)  Pam Quist logged the fastest time for a woman since March, when Sue Faber went faster going the other direction.

Bryan, in his second visit to the races of the year, took the lead on Keyless Bob Derringer right from the start, and gradually pulled away the whole way.  Poor Bob was overtaken by rookie and triathlete Rob Straznitskas and ended up third.

Among the women, Pam led pretty much the whole way, but Marge Demarrais looked smooth and strong finishing second.

There was no real clue that the leaders would be so fast today.  It was a cold morning, but the sun was out and the wind was down, and it warmed up quickly.  It was in the 20's when people began to arrive, but by the time the parking lot emptied, it was in the low 50's.  Nice day for a running lesson.

Regular top finisher Mike Abraham missed this week, traveling to Maine with the New Milford cross country team for the New England Championships.  Good luck to all.  We'll be waiting for results.

Our top left photo shows Pam Quist.  She's raced 11 of the last 16 races, and she's won 11 of the last 16 races.  She's raced 26 times in 2002, and she's won 23 times.  She's having one of the best Roxbury seasons anyone has ever had.  On the right, we have soccer coach Paul Teixeira.  He is currently locked in a hot race for third place in the points race, against JT Schemm and the Fossil.  Some weeks, it seems like half the field has to hurry home right after the race to coach soccer.  Paul is often among the fugitives.  People like Paul are terrible role models for those of us who want to relax and be lazy.  Soccer season ends soon, though.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet on CoolRunning.com and on HiTekRacing.com AND on runningintheusa.com.  All the great sites link to RoxburyRaces.com!
