Quist, MacWilliams Rerun
New Milford's Bryan MacWilliams (we got his
home town wrong last week) and New Prestonite Pam Quist paired up to win
for the second week in a row at Roxbury. For Bryan, it was his second
win. For Pam, though, it was her twelfth win in her last twelve
attempts. She missed a couple of races in there, so the win streak extends
clear back in to July.
For the last couple of weeks, Marge Demarrais has given PQ a run for her money (if you can do that at a race with no entry fee). On this week's longer course, Marge was only 52 seconds back, half of last week's gap.
Among the men, New Milford senior Bryan
MacWilliams
joined
an elite corps of NMHS runners to beat the coach before they graduate, as he
vanquished his coach, Mike Abraham, by a solid 42 seconds. Abe tried to
hang on, and was only about three strides back as they turned off West Apple
Lane on to South Street, half a mile in to the race. MacWilliams forged
onward, though, and Abe wore down as the gap grew.
Vern LeRoux and JT Schemm had a battle for third place going, but when the Fossil caught them, they quit playing games and Vern pulled ahead. JT fell apart and faded to sixth place.
Today's weather was the kind of bad weather that makes us dread November. It started out in the low 40's, and got lower, cloudier and windier as the race went on. Even worse weather is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. It could be crummy weather for a marathon.
Speaking of which, as we were arriving for the race, Carl Hunt and Corinne Bellemare were leaving for the Run in the Parks Marathon in Maryland, to add another state to their quest. We wonder where Walt Schuttler was? Next weekend is the Philadelphia Marathon, formerly the week after Thanksgiving, but now the Sunday before. We understand there is a caravan bound for Philly, as well.
Our top left photo shows Pam Quist, a pretty good candidate for Runner of the Year, if you ask me. On the right is JT Schemm, tying his shoes. Both pictures were obviously taken on a much warmer day.
