3.55 miles down
Hemlock

Adam Kozak looked fast today. He went out strong
from the start, and just got stronger and stronger as he disappeared up and over
the hill, Ken Merrick and Chris Bacich struggling
in his wake.
Once they disappeared, though, things
changed. Don't misunderstand. Adam didn't fade, die, slow down,
catch a piano, or have a gorilla jump on his back. Instead, Ken showed
again
why he's "Dangerous." He pounded down the long, icy hill on
Hemlock to catch Adam, then scampered back along Rt 65 and South Street to put a
30 second gap between them and to win his second Roxbury in a row. Chris
Bacich caught Adam and finished just three seconds behind him.
Marge Demarrais won her third Roxbury of the season, finishing 8th overall, well ahead of Peg Molina and Lynn Zuback. Early in the season, Marge was going out shot from a gun at the start, but this week, she went out a little slower, but was five seconds a mile faster than she was last week on a course that is more than a mile longer. Roxbury has things to teach even experienced runners.
Look at how the
various
rivalries are shaping up. For example, Dave DeBoy is 4-1 against Mark
LoSacco on the year, but there has never been more than one person between
them. Dave's trying to get ready for the Cape Cod Marathon.
Let's watch to see if Mark can keep up with Dave as he improves over the next
few months.
Jack Adomelas has been taking turns with Chas Greystone so far, Charlie prevailing weeks 1, 3 and 5, and Jack taking the even numbered weeks. So far, there's been no biting or scratching, but that looks like a pretty good match-up. Keep your eye on it.
The day started a bit cold, but as the race approached, people were tossing more and more clothes into their cars. Probably a quarter of the field ran in shorts. The parking lot had a number of icy patches before the race, but after the race, it had mud holes instead. By next week's race, it will officially be Spring.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on CoolRunning.com and on HiTekRacing.com
