2003 Roxbury Race #22

5.0 miles - Squire Road - Summer Championship

July 12, 2003

Abe, Pam Summer Champions

The 2003 Roxbury Mid Summer Championship happened as the Roxbury Fire Department was setting up for their big annual Pickers and Fiddlers Contest.  We got along well with them.  They swept the pavilion while we did the awards ceremony.  They waited until the race was over to close the fence across the jogging track.  It looked like they were going to have a lot of fun a bit later in the day.

In the race itself, Mike Abraham led out James Dabbo and Mark Andrejczyk and eventually pulled away for a narrow victory.  For a few alert readers, the name James Dabbo will be familiar.  He ran just three seconds slower in the 2002 Mid Summer Championship, but it was good only for fifth place last year.

Pam Quist beat Nora Hulton by five minutes to take the women's title.  It was the second time this season that Pam and Abe have combined to win at Roxbury.  They did this dance five times last year.

Above we have Ken and Shadow Merrick in front of the orange fence the Fire Department was setting up.  Shadow finished seventh, the highest finish by a dog that anyone can remenber.  A little lower we have Pam Quist, Charlie Greystone and Corinne Bellemare looking very serious just before the race.  Again there is evidence of the Contest in the background.  The Port-o-Potty to Runner ratio was very close to one to one this week.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
