3.95 miles - Jeep trail August 23, 2003 8:30 am - 71 degrees |

Brother-sister team of Adam and Alana Levy captured this week's 3.95 Roxbury
Road Race. Records are hard to check, but nobody (not even the Fossil) can
remember
when members of the same family won both the Men's and the Women's divisions in
the same week. Alas, nobody got a picture. Both Levy's will be
freshmen this fall, Adam in college in New Hampshire and Alana in high school in
New York. They were pursued by three more family members, parents Ross and
Janet, and brother-in-the-middle Andrew.
Adam enjoyed the company of Chas Greystone and Dan Lamb for the first mile and a half. Just when they were starting to get tired, Adam was feeling sparky, and he threw in a bit of a surge. Chas tried to stay with him. He couldn't do that, but he did shake Dan in the process.

On the hills, Dangerous Ken Merrick moved through to challenge Chas. Chas held him off, but Ken did edge Dan by ten seconds.
Alana beat Nora Hulton by 39 seconds to win for the women. Rapid Lynn Zuback was third, about a minute and a half behind Nora.
Getting Better All the Time
Eighteen people ran the Jeep Trail course both last week and this. Fifteen of those 18 improved this week, led by second place finisher Chas Greystone, who chopped almost six minutes off his time. Think he was resting up for something last week. Even winner Adam Levy took 32 seconds off his time. On the average, people improved by 1:05. Most average person this week was the Fossil, who improved by 1:02.
Abe won't shake hands
You might have thought Abe was being rude. He avoided shaking hands. He has an excuse. About six weeks ago, on the Tuesday before our July 12 Summer Championship race, Abe dug up a hornets' nest. He said he was sorry, but hornets seldom accept apologies, and pursued him with revenge on their tiny little minds. Abe retreated, tumbled, skinned up his hip and shoulder and, though he didn't realize it at the time, broke his wrist. He managed to win the Summer Championship, but the wrist wasn't getting better.
When he finally sought treatment, they had to re-break the wrist and set it with pins and a cast. The cast came off this week, a week early because his immune system was rejecting the pins and the hand was grotesquely swollen and infected.
Abe was back at Roxbury today, running carefully, and finished 8th over all.
Half Fullman
Hugh Fullman has won the family race to 100 points in the prestigious Roxbury Points Race by sending son Tom off for a semester at UConn. Sure, a semester at UConn costs something like $10,000, but there are some things, like Roxbury Points, that money can't buy. You have to get them the old-fashioned way - you have to EARN them.

Bob Lewis
The Pendulum Swings. In the decades-long rivalry between Bob Lewis and Scott Benjamin, Bob has taken home the bacon for the last four weeks in a row. Because Bob gave up a lot of points early in the season by running the Alternate race, Scott enjoys what will probably be an insurmountable 80 point lead in the Points race, but Bob has taken back a few of those points.
Pike's Peak
Both Carl Hunt and Kyle Gancher ran last week's Pike's Peak Marathon. They had so much fun that both of them are conspiring to do it again next year. We've put some of their comments here, but their photographs didn't survive the transplant.
In today's upper picture, we have winner two weeks in a row Adam Levy. Below that on the left is his dad, Ross. As you can see from Ross's picture, Web Guy has discovered a new cropping tool in his photo editor. Farther down, you see what Web Guy's new toy did to a photo of Mo van Moffaert and Gisela Boelhouwer.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
