Roxbury’s Brigham Scores Hometown Victory

ROXBURY – Chris Brigham, 48, of Roxbury captured a 3.95-mile run Saturday, May 15, at the Roxbury Road Races that started and finished about a mile from his home.

Brigham completed the rolling course, which included a challenging jeep trail at the 3-mile mark, in 23 minutes, 47 seconds. His time was 18 seconds faster than the previous week when he placed third.

Nelson Azevedo took second in 24.06 – six seconds faster than his clocking from the week before when he finished fifth.

Katie Kellogg, 18, of New Fairfield captured the women’s division – just two weeks following her triumph in the 14th annual MidSpring Challenge. Kellogg was 13th overall in 27.22.

The races will continue May 22, at 8.30 a.m. with a run over a 3.55-mile course that will include a trip down the long hill on Hemlock Road. On Sautrday, May 29, at 8.30 a.m. the runners will compete over The Roxbury Mile, which will start near the end of West Apple Lane and finish at the cross walk near Booth Free Elementary School on South Street.

The runners register each week at the Everett Hurlbut Community Park on West Apple Lane.
