Merrick & Krebs Shine on Team Race Day

On a misty rainy morning, the rain held off long enough for Ken Merrick and Theresa Krebs to capture individual wins in today's 2.4 mile team race.  They also led their respective teams to victory in the Male/Male and Female/Female categories.  How's that for starting a Saturday on the right foot?

Merrick won his 8th Roxbury race this year, covering the 2.4 mile course down the steep Chalybes hill in 13:48.  He combined with Jeff Tindell to take honors of the fastest team with a combined time of 29:10.

For Theresa, this was her 5th Roxbury win as she sped through the course in 16:35 and combined with Andrea Behling to run the fastest female team time of 33:45.  This race improved on her winning time of last week by 15 seconds.  Next week if she shows up she'll be going for her 3rd consecutive win.  She'll have to do it on the same course in the up direction.

The fastest Male/Female team this year was Dave Genest Sr. and Elizabeth Genest with a combined time of 37:12.

Team results and individual times are listed below.

 Pictures

Ron Karl took photos at the finish line a few weeks back.  He send us these shots in time to get them on the web page.  Up top we have the crowd milling around the finish line talking about who beat whom and whose running shorts almost fell off.  Below that, we have Corinne Bellemar during the Roxbury mile.  Even farther down, we have Charles Greystone finishing up his mile race. Way down at the bottom we have a dragon.  We don't often see dragons in Roxbury.  There are no dragons (or snakes) in Ireland.

Marathons

Response to the idea of a December Marathon has been positive.  Scott Benjamin has offered to take the lead in getting it organized.  Nothing is firm yet.  If you have ideas, talk to Scott, or talk to Fossil, or eMail Web Guy (address above)  We'll remind you of the issues.

  1. When?  Second week in December has been suggested.  Someone else suggested just telling people it's 2.4 miles, then surprising everyone.
  2. Course - We're gradually converging on the idea of a longer loop, six to eight miles, at the beginning, followed several shorter loops, probably 3.55 miles.  This would make it so we could have LOTS of water stops with just a few volunteers.  However, the numbers don't work out to use the usual 6.4 mile Falls Road loop.  Any suggestions for a fairly un-Alp-like opening loop?
  3. Relays?  Some people like to do Marathon Relays.  Would we want to include that, too?  How about a half-marathon at the same time?   (Answer: People seem to think we should include a marathon relay.)
  4. Who?  Who wants to take charge of all this? (Answer:  Scott Benjamin, plus whoever wants to help)
