Starting to Feel Like Summer?

On a beautiful bright sunny summer morning Mark Andrejczyk took the pace out fast and led the race wire to wire.  The seasonably warm summer temperatures had little effect on Mark, as he completed the out-and-back Judds Bridge Rd. course in a time of 28:52 (6:01 per mile pace).  Ken Merrick and Chris Brigham rounded out the top three.

Theresa Krebs continued her win-gathering ways with her 7th win of the season.  She beat the heat (and the rest of the women's field) with a time of 33:38 (7:00 per mile pace).  She was followed by Andrea Behling and Carrie Forsman.

Pictures

Up top we have a shot of Theresa Krebs from last week's MidSummer Championship race.  Her pace was 18 seconds faster this week on the flatter course.  Next up is second place finisher Andrea Behling.  Her pace was a whole 37 seconds faster this week.  Squire Rd. hurts doesn't it?

Below that is a shot of Scott Benjamin modeling one of those flashy Roxbury sweatshirts for Andrea and the rest of the crowd during the award ceremony.  Dave Harvey who raced today designs all the nifty Roxbury swag.  Get your donations in to Scot Benjamin over the upcoming weeks for the T-shirt drive.  The money goes towards buying this year's t-shirts, as well as grants to local high school track and cross-country teams.  Its a great cause and a neat way to get your name on the back of a goofy shirt!

At the bottom is Fossil's dragon.  It has been a fixture at the bottom of these pages for so long that I am afraid to remove it.

Corrections

Last week surrogate web guy (marksl2@earthlink.net) mistakenly reported that Jordan Akselrad ran the race, when it was in fact Jeff Nelson.  The page has been corrected and points adjusted accordingly.

There was a problem initially with the times on this page - everyone from 12th place on had times faster than they should have.  This has been corrected.  Thanks to folks for emailing their times to help clear this up.  If you see an error with your time, email me and I'll make it right.

Marathons

Update: The latest idea is to run the marathon on the same day as the November Fall Championship.  This way all runners can start together and those of us running the marathon can just keep going.  And going...   And going....

Scott Benjamin has taken the lead in getting it organized.  If you have ideas, talk to Scott, or talk to Fossil, or eMail Web Guy (address above)  We'll remind you of the issues.

  1. When?  Same day as November Fall Championship race.
  2. Course - We're gradually converging on the idea of a longer loop, six to eight miles, at the beginning, followed several shorter loops, probably 3.55 miles.  This would make it so we could have LOTS of water stops with just a few volunteers.  However, the numbers don't work out to use the usual 6.4 mile Falls Road loop.  Any suggestions for a fairly un-Alp-like opening loop?
  3. Relays?  People seem to think we should include a marathon relay.  Combining the marathon with the Fall Championship race may preclude that.
  4. Who?  Who wants to take charge of all this? (Answer:  Scott Benjamin, plus whoever wants to help)

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
