Scannell wins first, Andrejczyk wins sixth

Mark Andrejczyk outran a competitive field Saturday, Aug. 14, to win over a new 6.7-mile course at the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series.

Andrejczyk, 31, of Oxford covered the layout, which included a trip along the dirt surface on Upper County Road, in 43 minutes, 12 seconds.

Ken Moffitt, 52, of Brookfield placed second in 44:28 and Adam Levy of Chappaqua, N.Y., was third in 44:50. Levy runs for the cross-country team at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

Cindy Scannell, 46, was the first female finisher and placed 16th overall in 53:41.

The series will continue Saturday, Aug. 21, at 8:30 a.m. with a race over a 7.3-mile layout that will include a trip along a short jeep trail. The runners will travel 8.2 miles Saturday, Aug. 28, also at 8:30 a.m. There will be no entry fee for either race.

The runs, which start and finish near the Everett Hurlbut Community Park on West Apple Lane, are sponsored by the Roxbury Recreation Commission.

Pictures

Up top we have a shot of Theresa Krebs from the MidSummer Championship race.  Her time was just one second slower this week than last.  Next up is second place finisher Andrea Behling.  She improved by 38 seconds this week.

Below that is a shot of Scott Benjamin modeling one of those flashy Roxbury sweatshirts for Andrea and the rest of the crowd during the award ceremony.  Dave Harvey who raced today designs all the nifty Roxbury swag.  Get your donations in to Scot Benjamin over the upcoming weeks for the T-shirt drive.  The money goes towards buying this year's t-shirts, as well as grants to local high school track and cross-country teams.  Its a great cause and a neat way to get your name on the back of a goofy shirt!

At the bottom is Fossil's dragon.  It has been a fixture at the bottom of these pages for so long that I am afraid to remove it.

Upcoming Races
Monroe Road Race Series - 3.1 miles - Sun Aug 22 - The Monroe Road Race Series is organized by Roxbury regular Mark Andrejczyk.

Marathons

Update: The latest idea is to run the marathon on the Saturday after the regular series ends.  That would be Saturday, December 11.

Scott Benjamin has taken the lead in getting it organized.  If you have ideas, talk to Scott, or talk to Fossil, or eMail Web Guy (address above)  We'll remind you of the issues.

  1. When?  Saturday, December 11
  2. Course - We're considering 8.4 miles down to Judd's Bridge and back, followed by five 3.55 mile loops.    This would make it so we could have LOTS of water stops with just a few volunteers.  However, the numbers don't work out to use the usual 6.4 mile Falls Road loop.  Any suggestions for a fairly un-Alp-like opening loop?
  3. Relays?  People seem to think we should include a marathon relay.
  4. Who?  Who wants to take charge of all this? (Answer:  Scott Benjamin, plus whoever wants to help)

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
