The Watch Gremlin finished 13th in today's 2.4 mile Roxbury Road Race, wiping
out most times after that place. Once again, we must ask runners to report
their times (or the times of others). For this purpose, we've put a form
at the bottom of this page. Fill in your data, click "submit",
and it should automatically send a message to Web Guy.
In the race itself, eventual winner Jeff Sheldon set a hard early pace and eventually burned off all of his rivals for his second win of the season in a relatively fast 14:02. WebGuyJr was a dozen seconds back, with Mark Andrejczyk, Mike Abraham and Ken Moffitt following at about seven second intervals.
Among the women, Sarah Sladen is now two for two, taking her second title in as many Roxbury appearances. She was 12th over all in 15:52, some 15 or 20 seconds ahead of 17-time winner Theresa Krebs. Alas, Theresa's is one of the times carried off by the Watch Gremlin.
Slow and Missing Runners
Some of our regular runners were missing this week, and others who were there had excuses for being slower.
Ken Merrick ran last week's Philadelphia Marathon in a personal best 2:59. He says he felt crummy the whole way, in part due to the brand new shorts and singlet he wore. Congratulations on the milestone.
Peg Molina, Mo van Moffaert and Bill Gillen were up half
the night working on a relay across Connecticut that Peg organized for the
Methodist Church in New Milford to benefit an orphanage in Mozambique.
Fossil Ed
Sandifer and Mike Abraham ran a 9-mile leg through Southbury, starting about
1:30 am last night. It made the Fossil even slower than usual, but it didn't seem
to damage
Abe's
performance very much, as he finished fourth over-all.
A good many of our regulars also might be a bit tired from Thursday's 5k Thanksgiving Race though lots of people ran both of them.
Pictures
At the top, Christina Clark cruising toward the finish line, already reaching out for her popsicle stick. Then a picture of new sub-3 hour marathoner Ken Merrick. After that, Bob Satterlee trying to push over a post. Farther down we have Rapid Lynn Zuback, on a warmer day, smiling and waving. After that, a group of our friends laughing after the race. Way down at the bottom we have Fossil in Germany, six time zones east of here, meeting another dragon. Both the Fossil and the Dragon survived the encounter, only slightly the worse for wear.
Marathon
Scott Benjamin has taken the lead in getting it organized. If you have ideas, talk to Scott, or talk to Fossil, or eMail Web Guy (esandifer@earthlink.net ) We'll remind you of the issues.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
