Massive amounts of today's results disappeared. It took
a day and a half to find them, but it's all straightened out now.
Thanks
for everyone's help. We're still missing two times, George and
Steve. If you know your times, let us know.
We still have a number of missing ages. Let WebGuy know if you have further information.
The race itself was exciting. Mark Andrejczyk was pushing the pace early, and the top five were together for much of the first mile. By the time they got to Rt. 67, things had sorted out a bit with Jeff Sheldon holding a 10 to 15 yard lead on David Hunt. They were dead even a mile later when they got to Booth Free School, but Kid David had more power at the end and pulled away over the last mile for a one-second win. That's about five yards.
Meanwhile, Alison Lind got into a race with Mike Abraham, and the Abe turned it around to beat her this week. Alison won the women's division for the fifth week in a row.
Rivalries
Jack Adomelis saw his opportunity this week and shadowed the Fossil through about a mile and a half. Then the Fossil slowed down, but Jack bided his time and waited to make sure the Fossil really was dead. Then he powered past to pick off the Old Man for the first time. Congratulations, Jack.
The Bevy is Back. Four out of the five Levy's returned to Roxbury for the summer. One is taking a summer course at Brown and will join the Bevy in two or three weeks.
Gisela was back, too. She's visiting from her new digs in Calgary, and, like everyone knows, when you visit Roxbury, you should run a race. She did. Welcome back, and don't be a stranger.
Gisela noticed that there were a lot of new faces. Part of that is the race, but part of it is that we had an unusual number of rookies this week. There were 15 of them, not counting the two Unidentified runners.
Certification
We do everything we can to measure the Roxbury Road Race courses accurately. This week, for of us, Scott Benjamin, Mark LoSacco, Bob Lewis and Ed Sandifer, stayed after to measure the Jogging Track. We will use this for our Calibration Course. We had to measure it twice, once each direction, with a 100 foot steel tape bought especially for the purpose. It measured out to be 0.415 miles, astonishingly close to the 0.41 miles we'd been calling it. It measured one foot longer one way than the other way, well within the allowable margin for error.
We've bought a revolution counter for a bicycle, called an Oerth-Jones counter. The next phase will be to calibrate the bicycle on the Calibration Course and measure part of the Marathon Course. We will probably do the 3.55 mile course first, and do the link to Judd's Bridge later in July.
Safety

Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you us all five fingers.
Punctuality
We started almost on time today. With your continued cooperation, we hope to continue.
Pictures
These are last week's pictures, they came out
so well.
Up top, we have the guinea pigs assembling to listen to Scott's pre-race instructions. Then we have the speedy duo of Lou Denaro and Mark Andrejczyk discussing race strategy before the race. Below that a shot of Andrea Behling, Scott Benjamin and Bob Satterlee handing in their sticks. That shot is followed up with one of recent Roxbury regular and Warren Street runner Mike "Torpedo" Ruospo chatting it up with race director Bob Lewis. At right we have Dave DeBoy, Tom McNulty and others watching the earlier runners kick off.
Along the side of the results, we have Allison Lind along with the Hahns. Then Christina Clark in a great action shot as she launches off the starting line. Below that, shots of Diane Hasz and Ron Karl our trusty finish volunteers this week.
Way down at the bottom, we have the Fossil with his friend the dragon, and three sets of mystery feet.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
